Donald J. Trump promised that, if elected, he would reduce the regulatory burden on Nebraska businesses and individuals. Will he be able to keep that promise? It will not be easy.
He will have to defeat the federal bureaucrats in independent agencies and the lawsuits designed to stop him. For example, on Dec. 2, 2024, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he was seeking $25 million for legal fights against the new administration in Washington.
What can Trump do in the face of these challenges?
Repealing regulations under the Administrative Procedures Act is a long, drawn-out process that can be further slowed by lawsuits such as those being planned by Gov. Newsom. It could take nearly all of Trump’s four-year term to eliminate many rules and regulations using this process.
There are more expeditious ways to eliminate many burdensome rules and regulations.
