CD1 makes up some of the wealthiest areas in Maricopa County and has been a Republican stronghold for years, but that could change come November.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Its a district filled with luxury homes and one of the world’s tallest fountains.
Congressional District 1 is made up of Scottsdale, Fountain Hills and Paradise Valley areas. It’s said to be one of the most competitive districts in the state because a third of voters are registered as Independent.
Incumbent Republican Representative David Schweikert currently holds the seat. Schweikert, a small business owner has been in U.S. Congress for more than a decade and started his political career serving in the Arizona legislature more than 30 years ago. In 2022, Schweikert narrowly won re-election.
“It’s a competitive district,” Schweikert told 12News.
