HENDERSON, Ky. (WEVV) — A structure that has been a part of the Henderson community since 1900 will be dismantled by a demolition crew starting Friday morning due to a partial roof collapse.
The building, formerly an old dance hall and second-story apartments, has stood vacant in recent years. Mayor Staton emphasized the primary concern is ensuring the safety of the local residents, which necessitated the expedited demolition.
“We’re taking it down so quickly to prioritize the safety of those in the area,” said Mayor Staton. The immediate plan involves using an excavator to remove the building. Once the debris is cleared, city officials will develop a plan for what will replace the structure.
“We’ll work on a plan to see what the best fit for this property is and try to get something put there that’s going to be of high use in very short order,” Mayor Staton added.
