“I just want it to continue”: BookStacks in Bucksport changing hands after 27 years | Local News [Video]

BUCKSPORT — BookStacks is Bucksport’s only bookstore, owned by resident Andy Lacher. However, his 27 years of ownership are about to come to an end. 

Lacher plans to turn a new page and sell the store to a young woman who is a longtime Bucksport resident.

“It has it’s moments, but I can’t imagine doing anything else. You know, I haven’t worked since ’97,” Lacher smiled.

Though things will be changing at BookStacks under new ownership, Lacher says his clientele can expect many things to stay the same, including the name and the beloved cat, Lucky. He jokes that his secret to keeping a business open for almost 30 years is “Showing up, opening the doors and turning on the lights, and not expecting money.”

There is no set timeline yet for the changing of hands, and Lacher says it won’t be easy, but he’s looking forward to a hard earned retirement …
