JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) – Some Missouri lawmakers are working to stop the state from collecting taxes on income, but budget experts warn the move would either cripple many public services or would require finding revenue elsewhere to make up for it.
Several different proposals were filed by Republican lawmakers, some of which offer alternative funding sources to make up for some that lost revenue, while others are described as simply proposing a repeal of the state’s tax on income.
State Representative Bishop Davidson sponsored a pre-filed resolution to eventually phase out taxes on income.
“There are a lot of ways,” Davidson said. “You can find efficiencies in government, continue to economically grow out of it, and look at other tax rates.”
