International Graphite’s $4.5 million grant milestone in WA

International Graphite Ltd (ASX: IG6) managing director and CEO Andrew Worland talks with Proactive’s Tylah Tully about the company’s progress following a $4.5 million grant from the Western Australian Government.

The grant is part of a $6.5 million funding initiative, primarily supporting the development of Australia’s first commercial graphite facility in Collie, WA.

Worland shared details on how the funding aligns with International Graphite’s expansion strategy, starting with the construction of a 3,000-tonne production facility.

He explained, “This funding agreement is really the mechanism that fully funds our stage one development.”

The state-backed initiative allows the company to continue developing its graphite production capacity, keeping shareholder dilution minimal and focusing on creating sustainable market entry points for battery anode materials.

Looking ahead, Worland noted that production could expand up to 10,000 tonnes annually, establishing International Graphite as a notable supplier outside of China.

He highlighted the support from the WA Government as “fantastic news for us” and outlined how this partnership mitigated risk and enabled steady project financing based on clear milestones.
Beyond Collie, the company is actively advancing its Springdale Project, which recently obtained a second mining lease, unlocking one of Australia’s largest graphite resources.

This exciting phase in International Graphite’s journey reflects broader growth in the battery materials market, which Worland described as driven by rising demand for electric vehicles and lithium-ion battery components.
