Internet access expanding to 900 more homes in Rockingham County [Video]

An additional 898 households in Rockingham County will have high-speed internet access.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Good news for Rockingham County residents — access to high-speed internet is expanding.

As part of the Completing Access to Broadband (CAB) program, the North Carolina Department of Technology (NCDIT) is investing over $5 million to connect nearly 900 more homes with high-speed internet. The funding for the CAB grant came in equal parts from Rockingham County, the NCDIT and Spectrum Southeast, who each contributed a little over $1.7 million.

In 2022, the county announced the Connect Rockingham project, which has managed to reach over 4,000 homes in the area since its inception.  The project is expected to be completed by Halloween 2026.

Before that, Rockingham County was awarded funds in late 2020 as part of state-wide $30 million investment to bring broadband internet to more rural areas.
