Irish organisations awarded 836m at halfway stage of Horizon Europe [Video]

Irish organisations have been awarded more than €836m in funding from the EU’s Horizon Europe 2021-2027 research and innovation programme.

The current seven-year programme aims to support organisations to tackle global challenges, conduct groundbreaking multidisciplinary research and boost the EU’s industrial competitiveness and growth.

Ireland’s national drawdown target is €1.5bn or 1.6% of Horizon Europe’s €93.5bn budget for the current cycle.

The €836.4m granted to Irish organisations equates to 2.14% of the €39bn awarded so far, indicating that Ireland is ahead of target at the halfway point of the programme.

The funding secured by Irish enterprises has been distributed across 1,295 projects involving 487 individual Irish organisations and businesses.

Almost half of those 487 organisations (47%) have been awarded more than €250,000, while one in five have secured more than €1m.

Successful applicants from Ireland are drawn from a range of sectors and include higher education institutions, research performing organisations, public organisations and SMEs.
