MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Lawmakers will meet in Nashville on January 14 to start the new legislative session, and one representative is looking to crack down on local judges.
Tennessee representative John Gillespie is proposing two bills: one says that a person charged with an offense involving a firearm resulting in injury or death should not be released without bond.
The other bill would allow a judge to consider a defendant’s prior juvenile or criminal record when determining bail.
Gillespie said the first bill would keep the decision out of the judges’ hands.
