INDIANAPOLIS — One Hoosier university will soon have a new biosciences facility, thanks to a $138 million grant from the Lilly Endowment.
The money will be used to help Indiana University build the IU Launch Accelerator for Biosciences – also known as the IU LAB. This grant is the largest-ever for the school’s research and development interests.
IU President Pamela Whitten tells Inside INdiana Business that it will be “game changing for the city of Indianapolis and the state.”
Once completed, the LAB will be at the 16 Tech Innovation District in Indy. It is expected to “integrate education, research and development,” in part by connecting researchers with professionals around the city.
Some of its main focus areas will initially be diabetes/obesity, neuroscience, rare diseases, cancer, and bone engineering/regenerative medicine.
