Lincoln leaders proposing vote for street sales tax at April primary [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, with City and business leaders, came together Thursday to push for a ballot issue in the April primary to continue the “Lincoln on the Move” sales tax.

“We know our work isn’t finished, and we would like to ensure that this work continues,” said the Mayor. “If the quarter-cent sales tax is allowed to expire on September 30th, 2025, Lincoln will lose that $18 million in annual street funding, which jeopardizes our community’s growth, quality of life, and even our public safety.”

To keep Lincoln on the Move going, the Mayor is bringing three agenda items to the city council’s meeting on Monday, January 13:

  • A resolution to place the question on the April 8 primary election ballot of whether to continue the current quarter-cent sales tax for streets for an additional 8 years.
