LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The issue of affordable housing continues to be on the minds of people across the capital city.
On Thursday, a coalition in Lincoln kicked off a ballot initiative for the 2025 city election aimed at giving protections for renters who receive financial assistance.
The event was put on by Collective Impact Lincoln, a partnership between Nebraska Appleseed and Civic Nebraska.
Organizers say one-third of people that have housing vouchers can’t use them because many landlords do not accept them.
They said 22 states have enacted laws to protect those with alternative sources of income and the rate of people getting turned away was cut in half.
These groups want to bring those same protections to Lincoln.
