Lincoln University breaks ground on Health & Security Science Institute amid shortages in healthcare, crisis response [Video]

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) – Missouri Gov. Mike Parson and state and local officials broke ground Thursday on a new Health & Security Science Institute at Lincoln University.

Despite its relatively small size, enrolling just over 2,000 students this semester, LU is one of only two historically Black colleges or universities (HBCUs) in the state. Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis is Missouri’s other HBCU.

“It’s just an opportunity to change how we do business, change the way we do the structure of how we do funding,” Parson told reporters Thursday. “Whether it’s in rural areas, whether it’s in urban areas, suburban areas that healthcare demand, the law enforcement demand, these are high demand jobs.”

Parson also noted the high earning potential for a market needing qualified workers.
