Linda McMahon nominated to lead U.S. Department of Education [Video]

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – President-elect Donald Trump selected former wrestling executive Linda McMahon to lead the U.S. Department of Education.

Trump’s choice of McMahon, a well-known business executive and political advisor with strong ties to Connecticut, elicited mixed reactions.

She founded the World Wrestling Entertainment empire with her husband, Vince McMahon.

Linda McMahon is also a former head of the U.S. Small Business Administration and co-chair of Trump’s transition team.

Additionally, she served on the Connecticut Board of Education from 2009 to 2010.

McMahon will be replacing Miguel Cardona, a Connecticut native and educator who grew up in Meriden.

While both political parties have expressed mixed reactions, a major issue was Trump’s suggestion that he may dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

Trump proposed giving education decision-making power back to individual states, which would likely require Congressional action.
