Longtime Omaha community leader Marc Kraft dies [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Longtime Omaha public servant and local businessman Marc Kraft died this weekend at the age of 77.

Kraft served in public office for nearly 20 years.

He was an Omaha City Councilman for eight years, starting in 1997. He also served as a Douglas County Commissioner from 2009-2020, when he stepped down citing health concerns.

An Omaha native, Kraft was also a local business owner, most known for running Kraft DC Furniture and More.

A memorial posted on the Central High School Foundation website noted that Kraft “graduated from Creighton University in 1971 with a degree in mathematics,” and listed his contributions to the community.

“During his eight years on the Omaha City Council, Mr. Kraft served on many Council committees and with his support, Roberts Skate Park was created, funding for public libraries improved and smoking restrictions were enacted,” the post states. “In addition, Mr. Kraft was a strong advocate for Omaha’s neighborhoods, supporting initiatives …
