Lucas County finalizes recycling plant financing as it juggles big projects [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Lucas County is making its final plans to start that long-waited recycling facility.

The news comes as the county juggles several big-ticket projects that are getting costly.

Up for discussion Wednesday and getting the final funding piece is something called the MRF, materials recovery facility. That will take recyclable items that are picked up at the curb or dropped in county recycling dumpsters. Instead of hauling that material nearly 90 miles for processing, all that would be done at a soon-to-be-constructed facility off Kuhlman Drive near I-75.

To pay for this MRF the county is using federal and state funds, along with money from the county’s solid waste management district.

County leaders said with this project more than a decade in the making the finances are there.
