Man found guilty of starting massive fire that destroyed apartment building in SW Portland [Video]

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – The man responsible for a fire that destroyed an apartment building in southwest Portland last May has been found guilty.

Garrett Repp was found guilty Wednesday of 55 charges which included first-degree arson, first-degree animal abuse, recklessly endangering another person, and first-degree criminal mischief. He was found not guilty of one charge of first-degree animal abuse.

The fire began on May 16, 2023, at the May Apartments in the Goose Hollow neighborhood. The fire burned for over six hours, displaced roughly 33 people, and took over 80 firefighters to be put out.

The building was 113 years old and because of the damage from the fire, was demolished in September of 2023.

Repp was a resident on the third floor of the apartments and was arrested a week after the fire.

Last year, residents of the May Apartments spoke with FOX 12 and said Repp “terrorized” them for months before the fire.
