Market Report August 22: ASX closes higher with Tech sector leading gains [Video]

The ASX closed 0.24% up today on lower-than-normal volume… notching its 10th straight session of improvements.

The index rose by 19.4 points reaching 8,029.9.

Eight out of 11 sectors were up buoyed by Technology Information which gained 1.8%.

Tech stocks were in the green today, following behind WiseTech Global, which continued its strong performance from yesterday, climbing another 8% following its previous 17% surge.

Whitehaven Coal is selling a 33% stake in its Blackwater coal mine to Japanese steel giants Nippon Steel and JFE Steel Corporation for 1.08 billion US dollars.

Financial group ClearView ended its FY24 with a statutory loss of $12.5 million, as the former wealth manager refocuses on the life insurance sector.

And shareholders of Northern Star Resources received a larger than expected final dividend at almost 2% today despite the company announcing soft earnings and a profit miss.
