Massachusetts state officials are making a sudden U-turn, months after threatening to revoke the commercial driver’s licenses of hundreds of people with little notice.Friday, in an effort to help the drivers, Governor Maura Healey ordered the Registry of Motor Vehicles to change course and also asked state lawmakers to change state law.It comes several days after the Registry suddenly slowed the revocation process, likely a sign they wanted to give lawmakers time to act.Back in August, the Registry sent letters to nearly 500 truck or bus drivers telling them they would lose their commercial licenses based, in many cases, on decades-old offenses. Multiple drivers say the letters came out of nowhere and were based on infractions they thought were long in their rearview mirrors.Initially, the Registry told drivers they would lose their licenses no matter if they planned to appeal.
