Medical marijuana officially legal in KY [Video]

FORT WRIGHT, Ky. (WXIX) – Medical cannabis is officially legal in Kentucky as of Wednesday, but sellers say it may take months for any purchases.

Jay Armstrong of Dripwell Vapors told FOX19 NOW that his business, Bluegrass Cannacare, was among the ones selected in a statewide lottery to receive a license to open a dispensary.

Armstrong explained that Bluegrass Cannacare will be opening later this year, and while they can technically open already, they have no product.

“It’s legal to open a dispensary today, but there’s no product,” Armstrong said.

Kentucky requires dispensaries to sell product made in the state.

Suppliers could not start growing cannabis until Jan. 1, so medical marijuana patients will need to wait for the plants to grow.

“It’s not like there’s a machine you can just turn on that just pumps it out,” Armstrong stated.

Armstrong believes Kentucky dispensaries can open and start selling in late spring or early summer 2025.
