Microsoft has launched its Windows App to major platforms including macOS, iOS, Android, web browsers, and Windows PCs.
Windows App is essentially a unified interface for remotely streaming a copy of Windows and other various Microsoft services. These include Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, Microsoft Dev Box, Remote Desktop Services, and remote PCs.
The service is limited to work and school accounts, though. Microsoft mainly designed the new service for existing users of Remote Desktop clients for Windows and other operating systems who want to migrate.
Previously, Microsoft had similar service for connecting to remote PCs. The Remote Desktop Connection app that still ships with Windows 11, is a prime example. There’s also the Remote Desktop app that’s still available on Android.
These apps are useful for connecting to work PCs from personal devices. However, Microsoft shows no signs of supporting consumer accounts with the new Windows App.
