RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – The sales tax report presented at Wednesday’s Legal and Finance Committee meeting shows a strong economy in Rapid City.
The sales tax collection for the first half of the year totaled close to $41.2 million, a three percent increase from last year’s mid-year point. The report also included June’s sales tax receipts totaling $7.96 million, just under last year’s 8 million.
The sales tax report includes breakdowns in different categories, including General fund city sales tax and tourism sales tax.
June’s general fund sales tax receipts totaled $3.68 million, a slight decrease from 2023’s total of $3.7 million.
Tourism sales tax totaled $604,048 for June and more than $2.8 million for the total mid-year mark, a 3.81 percent increase from the mid-year point of 2023.
Finance Director Daniel Ainslie said collections are trending just slightly lower than budgeted, with a slight decrease in June numbers.
