Millions on the line for Peoria organizations if federal funding freeze continues [Video]

PEORIA (25News Now) – Businesses, city departments, and nonprofit organizations that operate off financial support feel a little bit of relief after President Donald Trump’s Administration rescinded the directive to freeze federal funds, though the messages are still mixed.

The pause was meant to go into effect Tuesday at 4 p.m., but a federal judge blocked the directive until Feb. 3. After the memo was withdrawn, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X indicating the memo was rescinded, but this was not a cancellation of the freeze.

Peoria’s Neighborhood House receives about $1.4 million from the federal government to provide a safe environment, resources, and education to people in need. President and CEO Julie Bonar said most comes from the Older Americans Act.

The federal funding makes it possible for volunteers to provide a hot midday meal and a wellness check to nearly 900 senior citizens through the Meals on Wheels program.
