Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity remembers Jimmy Carter’s impact after his death [Video]

As former presidents and other high-profile political leaders mourn Jimmy Carter, a neighborhood in Milwaukee with a special connection to the former president is remembering him too.Carter helped build six homes on Walnut Street and helped rehabilitate eight others in the neighborhood in 1989, as a part of Habitat for Humanity’s Carter Work Project.Cecelia Dukuly was a recipient of one of the new homes.”They used to tell me, your house is going to last long because the president is building it,” Dukuly said.When Dukuly immigrated to the United States from Liberia, Carter was in the Oval Office. Dukuly told WISN 12 News that she never expected to see the former president building her home at 23rd and Walnut streets.Carter was joined by about 1,000 other volunteers, and Dukuly herself.
