COLUMBIA — Ahead of winter weather conditions over the weekend, electric crews and road services are preparing for weather-related complications that could arise.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning for parts of mid-Missouri on Friday.
The city of Columbia said the Public Works Department is prepping snowplows, materials and equipment and preparing a response plan as it monitors forecasts. City of Columbia Utilities will have additional crews on standby for the potential of downed power lines, according to the city.
In Ashland, the Public Works Department announced it will begin 24-hour active operations starting at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Crews will work continuously until the storm has passed and all city streets are deemed passable, according to the department. Due to expected cold temperatures on Monday road treatment applications may have reduced effectiveness, potentially slowing progress, the department said.
