MLGW electricity rates increasing [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis Light, Gas and Water customers will see an increase in their bills starting in just two days.

This four percent increase is part of MLGW’s plan to fix old infrastructure.

Over the past two years, your bills will have increased by eight percent.

I bet some of you are saying can our bills get any worse? Yes, we have one more round of increases in 2026.

MLGW leaders say the rate increase will help with repairs throughout its system to make it more reliable.

The utility’s 5-year, $1.2 billion infrastructure plan calls for replacing 10 circuit breakers a year.

There are 1,000 in the system with the average age of each being 40 years old.

The annual four percent increase on your electric bill for the next three years could generate $50 million a year.
