Morgan County Salvation Army opening warming center ahead of cold temperatures. [Video]

DECATUR, Ala. — When temperatures drop, staying warm can be a challenge for people without a home to lay their head. The Salvation Army in Morgan County is preparing to help those in need stay warm by opening warming center ahead of a few frigid days next week.

“Anyone who is homeless is maybe medically fragile or has housing that doesn’t have heat or something like that would be welcome to come,” Administrator Becky Lahman said. “We’ll provide a meal and the evening and a breakfast in the morning before they leave again. The temperature will have to be 36 degrees or below or an advisory or warning put out by the National Weather Service for us to open our doors.”

The warming Center will open at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6 and will most likely be open the rest of the week.

Lahman shares they are in desperate need of volunteers. …
