Mountaineer Heritage Season set to return in January [Video]

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The W.Va. Division of Natural Resources announced the Mountaineer Heritage Season is set to open on Jan. 9.

The season will last from Jan. 9 to Jan. 12 and hunters can hunt deer, bear, and turkey. The season is open to all 55 counties. Hunters can only use primitive-style weapons such as longbows, recurve bows, muzzleloading black powder rifles, and pistols with a flint-lock or percussion cap action. Only longbows and recurve bows are legal in Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming counties.

During the season, hunters can harvest one deer, bear, and turkey. A hunter may take no more than two antlered deer during the regular deer seasons and the Mountaineer Heritage Season combined.
