Milwaukee Police Department is launching a new initiative to cut down on carjackings in the city.Operation Winter Guardian starts Sunday and will continue through Jan. 2025.If someone calls in a carjacking during this timeframe, additional officers will swarm the area where the incident occurred to arrest suspects, find the stolen cars and connect with the people in the community.This is modeled after a similar program in MPD called Operation Summer Guardian, which aims to curb gun violence.”This is about carjackings; we’ve seen an uptick this year.
