NAU Yuma students raising money to help field workers with basic items [Video]

YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — Every year, thousands of farm workers flock to Yuma, the winter lettuce capital of the world, to work the winter produce season.

Their dedication has inspired a group of students at Northern Arizona University’s Yuma campus to raise funds to buy lunch coolers for field workers.

Jocelyn Zaragoza and her three classmates started a GoFundMe page to buy as many lunch coolers as possible for field workers.

“More heavy-duty bags so their food stays warm or it stays cold during the long hours that they’re working. They do so much for us by providing us lettuce and vegetables. I think it’s important that we give back to them,” said Zaragoza.

They’re hoping to hand them out in December at the annual Day of the Farmworker in San Luis.
