WASHINGTON (KFOR) – The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced on Thursday, Seaman 1st Class (S1c) Aaron L. McMurtrey, 27, of Durant, Oklahoma killed during World War II has been accounted for.
According to DPAA, On Dec. 7, 1941, McMurtrey was assigned to the battleship USS California. The USS California attacked by a Japenese aircraft sustaining multiple torpedo and bomb hits, which caused it catch fire and slowly flood. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 103 crewmen, including McMurtrey.
