Nevada Fire in Grass Valley prompts evacuations [Video]

A vegetation fire in Grass Valley that prompted evacuations has been stopped and the evacuation orders have been lifted.

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. — A woman is in custody after a fire in Grass Valley led to evacuation orders Friday afternoon.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. Friday, and Cal Fire NEU says it started as a report of bushes on fire between Lumberjacks Restaurant and a Honda repair shop on Nevada City Highway.

Multiple structures were threatened and evacuation orders were issued for certain areas just after 4 p.m. They were lifted just before 5 p.m.

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
