New Bangor School Department superintendent shares plans ahead of start of school year | Local News [Video]

BANGOR — The return to class is right around the corner for many Maine kids, and schools are gearing up for their arrival.

Bangor School Department’s new superintendent Dr. Marie Robinson says the department is focusing on the needs of the students as the first day of school inches closer.

“We are looking at two overarching goals: attendance and achievement,” said Robinson.

Robinson took over as superintendent of the Bangor School Department last month.

And with the first day of school already on the horizon, she has her eyes set on reducing absenteeism and making students feel welcome.

“We have lots of enriching programs and focusing on mental health, inclusivity, and all of that is really the pathway to student achievement,” said Robinson.

Robinson is the former superintendent of Katahdin Schools. Just last year, their district boosted attendance by 5%.

She hopes to replicate that in Bangor by keeping students engaged.
