OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Like many cities in the U.S., the lack of affordable housing has hit crisis levels in Council Bluffs.
Nesha Edmonson manages The Porch Bar & Grill, which just celebrated its five-year anniversary doing business in the Bluffs. Nesha knows all about the affordable housing shortage in her community.
“Recently, my son was looking for a place to live, and finding something affordable for young people to rent was an issue,” Nesha said. “They ended up finding something more on the outskirts of the city in a small town, which was more affordable for them.”
But help for the city is on the way. Construction crews are clearing ground for 192 affordable apartment units on the south side of Council Bluffs.
The Union at Bluffs Run will cover more than 10 acres. Four three-story apartment style buildings will make up the new living community.
