New museum room at Ozarks Holman House to honor Southern Star newspaper [Video]

OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) – Ozark will soon welcome a new museum that pays tribute to one of the city’s oldest businesses.

“We approved putting a Southern Star museum in the basement of the Holman House,” Ozark Mayor Mark Blankenship said.

The Southern Star, which was founded in 1867, has long been a staple in the Dale County community.

“For a small city like Ozark, it is extremely important,” Blankenship said.

Now, Ozark is working to preserve the history of print news in the city.

“We want to go back and pick up the old metal line types that most people have forgotten about, the old hand-fed presses, and bring it up into the more modern-day off-set printing and that kind of thing, so we want to have that transition in the museum,“ Blankenship said.
