(WFSB) – With the start of the new year, Connecticut residents can expect more than just a fresh calendar, they’re getting a raise.
Starting on Wednesday, the state’s minimum wage will increase by 66 cents, bringing it to $16.35 an hour.
Lawmakers say this wage increase is simply an adjustment for inflation, to help workers keep up with the rising cost of living.
According to CBS data, the wage hike will impact more than 240,000 people in the state, which accounts for over 15% of workers in Connecticut.
Full-time employees working 40 hours a week can expect a bump of just over $700 a year.
Currently, the minimum wage stands at $15.69 an hour, but starting tomorrow, it will rise to $16.35.
