After last week’s “freeze” postponed the initial meeting, College Station city staff finally had a chance to host the Northgate Small Area Plan meeting and get community feedback to decide the future of the student-driven area.
During the Jan. 9 city council meeting, councilors and citizens debated the sale of a city-owned parking lot in Northgate to develop a high-rise development. In a 5-2 vote, councilors ultimately decided against the development, but pointed out that citizens would be interested in some kind of future development that doesn’t involve a high-rise. To guide future growth and development in the Northgate area, councilors, separate from the high-rise vote, approved the beginning of a small area plan.
