He reminded residents about life-saving tips, like never plugging a space heater into an extension cord and always checking that your fire alarms are working.“They have such things as appliance cords that carry a lot more amps and don’t have that heating up and burning your house down. Not as flimsy as a Christmas cord is,” Taylor said. It’s not just the inside of homes that need attention — plants are also at risk with the cold snap moving in.
