The number of people employed rose in August by just over two per cent according to the latest CSO figures.
The number of females employed was up by 0.2% compared to just 0.1% for men.
Overall, the seasonally adjusted employee index was up by 2.6% in the 12 months to August of this year.
But there were small falls in the numbers of 15-19 years (-0.6%) and 65 years and over (-0.3%) age groups in employment.
There was also a slight increase in the Human Health & Social Work Activities and Transportation & Storage sectors with both going up by 0.5%.
However, the largest monthly decreases in August 2024 were in Services (T,U), down 2.8%, followed by Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities (-0.9%).
Although the CSO noted that Services (T, U) is the smallest sector, with 4,300 employees in August 2024.
