Opposition pledges millions for Gold Coast crime crackdown, but concerns raised over major project funding [Video]

In a flurry of election promises, Queensland’s opposition has pledged to fund a permanent police beat to reduce crime in the Gold Coast suburb of Burleigh Heads. 

However, the commitment has sparked concern that a significant infrastructure project may be sacrificed to fund the initiative.

Business owners in Burleigh have repeatedly expressed their concerns about escalating crime in the area.

In response, the Coalition today unveiled a $4.1 million “multi-pronged crime reduction approach”. 

The plan includes $2 million for six additional police officers, $1 million to establish a local liquor accord, $600,000 to implement a permanent police beat, and $500,000 to expand the council’s CCTV network.
