Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party kicks off motorcycle rally week [Video]

MITCHELL, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Before the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins on Friday, a celebration in Mitchell will be held to start those engines up for the week ahead.

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins on August 2nd and draws thousands of riders and motorcycle enthusiasts each year who travel from all over the world, some with a route through Mitchell, South Dakota.

The Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party begins on Thursday, August 1st on Main Street near the Corn Palace.

Organizers said the event started as something small, but has grown each year.

“It’s not something you snap your fingers or make up overnight or within a few weeks or a few months. There’s hundreds of hours, hundreds and hundreds of emails, of phone calls, text messages, numerous Excel spread sheets, Word documents, maps that go into the planning process for this event,” said organizer Aaron Hieb.
