Peltola abstains from voting for DNC presidential nominee [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Rep. Mary Peltola’s campaign confirmed on Tuesday the congresswoman abstained from voting for the Democratic National Committee’s presidential nominee, saying she has been busy meeting with Southeast Alaska communities.

All 19 of Peltola’s fellow Alaska delegates cast their respective ballots for Vice President Kamala Harris’ nomination, and on Tuesday, the former California senator secured the party’s nomination.

Delegates were instructed to cast virtual votes in advance of the party’s Aug. 19-22 convention.

“[Peltola] has yet to have the opportunity to speak directly with the Vice President since she became the presumptive nominee about the issues uniquely important to our state,” Peltola spokesperson Shannon Mason said in a statement.

“If Vice President Harris is elected, Mary looks forward to a productive relationship with the President and the Vice President and will work with the delegation to lift up Alaskans’ unique needs.
