The Farm Bill directs policies for agricultural and food assistance programs nationwide. Unfortunately, the House’s Farm Bill contains dangerous language that could undo many state-level farmed animal protections.
Some corporate interests were unhappy with California’s widely supported Proposition 12, which ensures that certain animal products sold in-state are derived from animals not raised in the cruelest forms of confinement. After facing legal defeat before the Supreme Court, they requested federal legislation to attack state laws like Prop 12.
Voters in Pennsylvania are interested in where their food comes from including how animals are treated. We are calling on U.S. Sen. Bob Casey to vote against any version of the Farm Bill containing language attacking state laws including laws that protect animals. I encourage others to do the same.
