Pittsburgh Steelers center to miss significant time with shoulder injury [Video]

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers starting center Nate Herbig has suffered a significant shoulder injury that will keep him out for an extended period of time, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Herbig suffered the injury on Wednesday during the team’s last day of training camp. He was checked out by trainers off to the side and left practice shortly after that. Zach Frazier assumed all first-team work and did so again during the joint practice with the Buffalo Bills. He is expected to start against the Bills on Saturday, and with Herbig likely out for the foreseeable future, it means that Fraizer will almost certainly start Week 1.

Herbig could be in danger of missing the start of the season, which would allow the Steelers to place him on injured reserve on cut-down day. If that should happen, the Steelers do not need to create a roster spot for Herbig on their initial 53-man roster. Instead, …
