Program giving employees paid time off reaches new milestone [Video]

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – A program that gives employees paid time off is reaching a milestone.

Connecticut’s Paid Leave started in 2021. By the end of this year, close to 1 billion in benefits will be made.

This helps workers take time off for themselves or family members in difficult life situations.

Connecticut’s Paid Leave program has now been in place for 3 years and they’ve processed 190 thousand claims.

The program gives Connecticut employees up to 12 weeks of paid time a year. There is additional time if there are medical issues.

Up until this was passed, many small Connecticut businesses were not able to pay for their employees to take off this much time.

In these 3 years, about 150 thousand businesses have signed up to participate in the paid leave program.
