METALINE FALLS, Wash. — Pend Oreille Public Utility District No. 1 (PUD) has secured a $1 million Emergency Rapid Response (ERR) grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce for urgent repairs to the Metaline Falls Transmission Line.
The grant replaces a previous $500,000 grant and loan. The PUD will retain $200,000 in contingency funding for unforeseen needs.
“This grant allows us to address critical issues without burdening our customers,” said John Janney, PUD General Manager.
The funding will support the replacement of a damaged 12-inch pipe, the aging waterline, and stabilization of the hillside that collapsed after ruptures in October 2024.
The hillside failure disrupted water service for 200 customers and affected Highway 31.
