MASON, Ohio (WXIX) – A rally is being held Monday to support Mason teachers as they continue negotiating new contracts ahead of the new school start date of August 15.
“With the school year approaching, we’re really at a crisis point; our teachers need a new contract and so far the board of education and our superintendent have not been able to offer a fair agreement,” Mason Education Association spokesperson Stephanie Nally said.
Nally said the association represents over 600 teachers whose contracts expired on June 30th. She says they started bargaining in February and are hopeful they can reach an agreement on Monday.
Wendy Spatz and other parents are holding a rally to support the teachers as negotiators meet again.
“We will all walk as a unified collective group to central offices where we will learn where negotiations stand at that time,” Spatz said.
