RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Carlito Jumpingeagle, Julian Wright, and Colin Whiting, all 18, are accused of breaking into a Rapid City home and starting a fire inside October 24. Jumpingeagle and Wright pleaded not guilty in Pennington County court Monday to charges of second degree arson and third degree burglary.

Whiting is reportedly awaiting a mental competency evaluation and was not present to plead with his codefendants.

The arson charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and the burglary charge carries a five-year maximum sentence, if they are convicted.

Judge Joshua Hendrickson agreed to lower Jumpingeagle’s and Wright’s bonds from $50,000 to $20,000 to match a reduction in charges. Whiting’s bond was not addressed yet.

The three men are scheduled to make their next court appearance December 30.
