Rapid City proposes broadening time restrictions on alcohol sales | Lifestyle [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. – In a public meeting at City Hall, the Rapid City Legal and Finance Committee discussed potential revisions to City Ordinance 5.12.060, which involves the hours in which businesses are allowed to sell alcohol.

The current ordinance prohibits bars and restaurants with liquor licenses from selling alcoholic beverages between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Liquor stores will similarly be prohibited from selling alcohol until 10 a.m.

The proposed revision will widen the current time restrictions on alcohol sales by 3 hours. Bars, restaurants and liquor stores will be prohibited from selling alcohol between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m.

This decision was made in response to an elevated number of EMT calls regarding intoxication in the morning. The proposed revision was brought forward in 2020, but was tabled due to other items taking priority.
