Rapid City proposes matching donations to feed students in need | Lifestyle [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City’s Legal and Finance Committee met at City Hall today to discuss a new program that would help to feed students in need at Rapid City Area Schools.

Alderman Greg Strommen of Ward 3 proposed that a challenge fund of up to $25,000 be established to match any donations made to the Fed and Ready to Learn program – a program created by the Rapid City Public School Foundation to pay off negative balances for student lunches.

The vote today was made, not to initiate the program, but rather to allow for the entire City Council to discuss the project at their meeting on Monday. Should the program be approved, any donations to the Fed and Ready to Learn Program made between August 5th and November 30th will be matched by the city up to $25,000.
